What is the gold price per gram in Durban today?
The gold price moves every minute on the international market and is quoted in rands per gram once converted. Our live gold price page shows today's rand price for 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 22ct and 24ct gold, and we always show you the exact rate we are using when we make you an offer.
How much is 18ct gold worth per gram?
18ct gold is 75% pure gold, so it is worth about twice as much per gram as 9ct. We test each piece to confirm the karat before pricing it — stamps are a guide, not proof.
What is a Krugerrand worth today?
A full Krugerrand contains one troy ounce of pure gold, so its value tracks the daily gold price in rands, with a small premium for condition and demand. Half, quarter and tenth Krugerrands are priced proportionally.
How do you test gold?
We use an electronic scanner plus a traditional acid test on an inconspicuous spot, then weigh each piece on a calibrated scale. Everything happens on the table in front of you — nothing is taken away to be tested elsewhere.
Will testing damage my jewellery?
No. Scanning is completely non-destructive, and the acid test uses a tiny scratch on a hidden surface that is invisible once cleaned.
Why do gold buyers offer different prices?
Because they take different margins, and some quote on the stamped karat rather than the tested karat. Ask any buyer to show you the rate, the tested purity and the weight. If they cannot show all three, be careful.
